Dirk Haas

Worked With Models

My name is Dirk Haas. I was born in 1974 in Münster, Germany, and now I’m living near Cologne.

I bought my first digital camera for the birth of my son in 2005. My passion was landscape photography and also wedding photography for the first few years.

In 2016 I wanted to explore the analog world and understand photography from beginning to end.

I started with old cameras: a Polaroid 600se and a medium format camera from the former GDR: a Pentacon 6. I got an SX-70 as a gift. These three cameras became my permanent companions. They have become a part of me.

It was also at that time that I got interested in Art Nudes. The subject and the gear fit together perfectly: the naturalness of the nude coupled with the slower pace of analog equipment and shooting film.

It is a pleasure to work with old gear and to configure everything.

With Polaroids, each picture becomes unique. It is a slow process: put the camera on a tripod, check focus, measure exposure, check your settings again and then click.

It’s feels great to peel the positive apart from the negative: what is on your mind is one thing, but the result … you never know.

To me, creating a great portrait is always a challenge. The photo is supposed to convey emotions, reflect the model’s relationship with the photographer and also tell us a short story. I hope you will see that in my images.

PS – None of my pictures is more than 2 years old !
